An early taste of summer........

We took a trip up the west coast to Mum and Neil's bach at Urenui for a week in early October. The weather gods were smiling on us and we got wall to wall sunshine.

Molly cuddling up to her little sister after a day on the beach. Perfect time to grab a cuddle with Maddy as the opening credits for Finding Nemo run.

Sunscreen was in short supply so the girls used black sand instead. Harder to rub in than your average SPF50.

The West coast is a bit rough at times and some big old twigs get thrown onto the beach. This one gave us some relief from the sun.

That white on black really stands out don't it.

Molly loved finding crabs. She would pick them up and let them run over her hands. Unfortunately a crab found Maddy before she found it. She screamed and leap up onto Beth's shoulders. Now she won't walk on the sand. Molly used this as leverage when sibling battles kicked off. Just a mention of a crab set Maddy into a spin and huff.

Maddy a bit tense here.....watch out.

We stumbled onto a shop selling exclusively Fairy outfit (no wonder we are in a recession). They even had an 'event' room called Pixietopia and adult sized fairy costumes. Couldn't help but think of you mum :-).

Needless to say we couldn't get the girls out of these get-ups once they were on. Fortunately for us Fairy outfits are appropriate for every occassion when you are 3 and 6.

Band shot.

The GAP where Molly's tooth used to be and chocolate dessert.

We also got the kids up onto some horses on the trip up. Maddy had her first shot at it. Loved it.

I also came out of my cocoon. No surprises I was a beautiful butterfly.

We had this outfit for the home show (we are a Sensitive choice partner and their symbol is a blue butterfly). We also had a dust mite but I figured that was a bit scary for Maddy's day care which is where I went dressed as you see me now. Kids loved it. Parents thought I was a weirdo. I'm just misunderstood.

Just another day in Paradise!

Another sunny weekend down on the Queen's Wharf, warnings of slippery walkways were unheeded as we strolled in the sunshine, stopping for great views, ice-creams and photos!

Christmas Holidays at the Beach

Christmas was very relaxing. We headed up to Urenui (small beachside town) which is about 35 mins from New Plymouth on the west coast, four days before Christmas. We stayed in Viv and Neil's 'bach' by the sea which is situated on a camping holiday site. It is perfectly situated for an easy stroll to the beach and local shop and if you're a keen golfer - it's also ideal!
We arrived just in time to beat the mad rush of Christmas holidaymakers and spent four very quiet and relaxing days soaking up the hot sunshine with the kids on the beach. On Christmas eve, we packed up and headed down to Hawera for Christmas brunch with Viv and Neil and family and then onto Murray and Trish for lunch. We spent a lovely day catching up with all the families and stayed over in Hawera that night and then instead of returning to windy Wellington, we decided to return to Urenui for a bit more R&R!
The weather wasn't as good the second week but that didn't matter as the girls were more than happy to occupy themselves either covering each other in black sand at the beach, playing at the local park, in our backyard beside the bach or eating ice-creams at the cafe with us. We can't wait to do that again.
